How to Set Up your PayPal Account for iFF

If you would like to offer PayPal as a payment option to your donators, you must have a PayPal account located in a country that can send and receive payments through PayPal. For a complete list of PayPal-supported countries, see PayPal’s list of localized sites.

To accept contributions made via PayPal on your indieFilmFunding campaign, you’ll need to have a PayPal account that meets the following criteria:

1. Your PayPal account needs to be verified by adding a bank account.
2. You must confirm your email address.
3. You must have a Business or Premier account.
4. Your account must be capable of accepting USD ($), CAD (C$), AUD (A$), EUR (€), or GBP (£) (depending on your project’s currency).
5. Your payment receiving preferences must be set to allow “Send Money” payments.
6. Your account must be capable of receiving the goal amount on your campaign.
7. Your PayPal account balance must not be negative or zero; Make sure that your PayPal account balance is in the positive.

PayPal navigation may vary depending on your account status and location, we recommend searching PayPal’s Help Center for instructions on complying each element above.

For most PayPal accounts, you’ll be able to follow the instructions below:

1. Get Verified:
– Log in to your PayPal account.
– Click Get Verified on your Account Overview.
– Select the verification method you want to use.
– Enter your information, then click Continue.
– Click Confirm, then click Submit.

Plan Accordingly: Depending on your country, it may take several days for your account to become verified!

You will not be able to receive contributions via PayPal on your campaign, if your account is pending verified status with PayPal. Please wait to launch your campaign until you have completed setting up your PayPal account.

2. Confirm your Email Address:
– Log in to your PayPal account.
– Click Profile near the top of the page.
– Click Update next to Email.

– Log in to your PayPal account.

For most accounts, the unchecked setting for the Initiate payments from the Pay Anyone, subtab of the Send Money tab, field is the default. If you’re not able to find this setting on your account, you may not need to adjust this option.

6. Increase Your Account’s Receiving Limit:

If PayPal has placed a Receiving Limit on your account, you may be limited to the amount your campaign can receive via PayPal. You should be able to provide PayPal with tax ID information to increase the receiving limit. These limits may differ depending on an account’s currency and location, we recommend reviewing PayPal’s Help Center for information specific to your account. If your account has an annual Receiving Limit, we recommend providing the requested tax information before you publish your project, to ensure that all incoming funds remain unaffected.

If you’re in the United States and expect to receive more than $20,000 USD and over 200 payments within one calendar year. Please follow the instructions below to add your tax ID number and raise your account’s Receiving Limit:
– Log in to your PayPal account.
– Click Profile near the top of the page.
– Click Add in the “Tax ID number” section and click Continue.
– To determine which tax ID number you’ll need to provide (SSN, EIN, or ITIN), please see Understanding IRS 6050W.

If you’re in Europe, you’ll need to provide PayPal with additional verifiable information if your account receives a total amount of £1900 GBP or €2500 EUR. To increase your Receiving Limit before your campaign is affected:
– Log in to your PayPal account.
– On the “Account Overview” page, click the View Limits link.
– Tick the box next to “Receiving Limit per year” and click Lift Limits.
– Under “Business Information” click Supply Additional Information.
– Follow the instructions provided.

You can begin these steps at any time. However, if all the steps are not completed and you reach your account’s Receiving Limit, then you will no longer be able to receive donations through indieFilmFunding until you complete the steps.
